Old School Sidetrack Bits have been used the same way for well over 50 years. They use spherical natural diamonds set into ridges to help protect from impact loads that fracture them. I time drilling with light WOB in medium hard to hard formation (sometimes loose rubble) can dull the diamonds in just one run and since they cannot be redressed the damage charges can be as much as the gross price of the bit. Our KX Sidetrack Bit was designed to avoid that delima. It uses HPI (High Pressure Impreg) inserts set much like cylinder PDC cutters. These inserts resist impact loads very well and are resistant to abrasion. Most im portantly they can be replaced during redress which almost eliminates damage charges.
